The most important thing in tours like this is having a guide that makes sure you hit the timestamps: he made sure we left in time, (threatening) leaving behind slow people (at the camp/office, not halfway up the mountain) if necessary. WHICH IS GOOD. We made it to Fuego ridge before sunset and to Acatenango summit before sunset. I saw people arrive late to both which is a complete waste of effort. This tour leaves early (from office 6:30, start hike 9:00, Fuego ridge 16:00, Fuego summit 3:50).

For this you pay 99$ (more with their strange exchange rates), we payed 29$ + Q560. Excluding Q100 parc entrance fee (this is included in prices at CA travel (Q525) and Wilco and Charlie ($119$+))
You sleep in a very decent (I would say premium) cabin with windows, it is however small. unfortunately our view was blocked by the trees (first cabin of row of 4 in the camp).

They charge an extra 320Q/40 USD for the Fuego add on which we did with 8 people and 1 guide. I think this is very excessive. You can decide to do this on the spot, so don’t book it ahead cause if the weather is terrible or you aren’t feeling well you don’t end of paying for something you didn’t do..

Food was ok. Nothing special, nothing premium.

Book this tour, if the cloud allow for nice view (no company influences this ;-) )it will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life!! I hope this helps in choosing a company.

Spectacular Experience So much fun! Excellent guides (shout out to Alonzo and crew), amazing group of fellow travelers, clean accommodations on top of the mountain and a volcano that did not disappoint. Highly recommend renting walking sticks and hiring a porter, as well as shoes with good tread.

Amazing views, so worth it! Did the one-day Acatenango tour with OX Expeditions and it exceeded expectations!! Went on my own but befriended the other kind fellow solo travelers/hikers in my group. Our guide, Willy, was awesome – humble, positive, encouraging, and clearly very experienced and knowledgable of the volcanos and the surrounding area.

Amazing views, a hike that was challenging but doable, especially with the help of the walking sticks which were 10Q (less than $2) to rent. (For comparison purposes, I found the San Pedro volcano in the department of Sololá, Guatemala more challenging than Acatenango.)
