Corn is a very important ingredient in Guatemalan culture and people and one of the first foods prepared by Mayans was tamales. In this workshop, you will learn with a Mayan traditional cook how to prepare sweet and salty tamales with fresh criollo corn masa, local ingredients, and traditional culinary techniques.
Amazing culinary experience with Kukul Tales! This is my first time in Antigua and my first tour during my visit here. I wasn’t sure what to expect for this tour and it completely exceeding any expectations I did have. The guide Xoshil Martinez was warm and knowledgeable. Being able to learn from Maria and her mom was such was a gift. The tortillas, sauces, and Mayan beverage were amazing! This is a truly unique experience! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience traditional (and delicious) Guatemalan cooking.

A meaningful and authentic taste of Guatemala My family and I participated in a market tour and cooking class experience by Kukul Tales that was the perfect introduction into Guatemalan cuisine and culture! Rebeca went above and beyond to customise the experience to suit our preferences. She truly understands that food is the window into culture. After discussing our interests, she took us on a food exploration of Antigua market, and organised a cooking class with a local family to prepare Jocón de Pollo, a traditional chicken stew with roots in ancestral Mayan culture. We are very grateful to Maria and her mother for not only sharing their family recipe, but also the rich stories behind it. Thanks Rebeca and the Kukul Tales team for the wonderful experience!

Great family learning activity Really enjoyed learning how to make one of Guatemala’s dishes, Pepian, with a local. It was delicious and easy enough to learn. Can’t wait to try making it on my own. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Would definitely recommend if you want to immerse in the culture and learn new things.

Amazing tamale cooking class! I did the tamale cooking class and had an incredible experience. The teacher was kind, funny, and let me take my time as I was making the food. She answered any questions I had about the recipes and told me more about life in Guatemala. The food was incredible! Maybe one of the best meals I had in Antigua :) I loved trying the different types of tamales, making my own salsa, and learning more about the ingredients. The masa was prepared ahead of time so that saved on time and created an easier experience. Highly recommended!!
