Overview:

This museum is housed inside The Old University of San Carlos, also known as the Royal and Pontifical University of San Carlos Borromeo, which was founded in Antigua Guatemala in 1676. It was the first university in Central America and one of the first in the Americas. The university was founded by the Spanish Crown and the Catholic Church and played an important role in the intellectual and cultural life of the region.

The university was housed in a grand colonial building in the heart of Antigua, which today is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. The building served as the headquarters of the university until it was moved to Guatemala City in the late 18th century.

Today, the Old University of San Carlos is a popular tourist attraction and visitors can tour the historic building and learn about its rich history.
