Finca San Cayetano Restaurant / Hotel
Location: ★★★★★
It’s Hidden outside all the tourist traps, 36 -38 min from Antigua Guatemala (a Major tourist trap) following RN-14. The Road winds around mountains and volcano slopes you get to this magical place, the last mile of the road is not paved, so I questioned the management of the place, they explained that is part of the character of this place that started a coffee plantation farm and later modified to accommodate a restaurant with a view, a hotel, cabins and other facilities.
I have read some reviews in my life about doing this, many people make their reviews based on their prejudices about how the food should be, for example, I would not go to Thailand expecting them to serve a good plate of Italian food. That's comparing apples to pears and saying that one is better. This is a Gem in a treasure map, is an oasis for anybody who has actually traveled, and not just in vacations with prejudiced expectations.
Service: ★★★★
Great, friendly, they review your order, 15 tables, Full Bar. You can also order To-go, if you are staying in one of the rooms they have room service. In a very European style, they would bring you courses, with enough pause for you to enjoy it, they are not in a hurry to turn a table and get someone else sitting at your place, their whole goal is your experience.
Menu: ★★★★
Cooking style, International, they mix their interpretation of international and national dishes, Italian, French, Caribbean, Peruvian, and Lebanese. They have Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. You can mix and match your way to a five-course meal. Appetizers 14 to choose from including soups (3) Salads (4); Entrees (22), Sandwiches and Burgers (4), they also have a “menu light” in case you are not that hungry. Dessert (8). A Kids menu. I know by a fact they’ll have vegetarian food, not so sure about vegan.
Happily surprised by the different choices they have.
Food: ★★★★
Great, 4 ½ Stars. As a reference, I had a 12oz. Puyazo steak, perfect medium as I asked, veggies, and a baked potato. To clarify Puyazo is like a rib-eye. Never had such a perfect temperature in my steaks, perfect medium. My wife Had San Cayetano salad, also pleased.
Price: ★★★★
Not bad, $25 for 12oz. steak plate and a Salad included, can’t ask for much more.
Overall: ★★★★★
I will come back and highly recommend it. They value Quality over Price, as far as our experience it is definitely a let’s make plans to come back again, Antigua Guatemala is beautiful, but this is gorgeous, nobody overpricing something to sell you. It can be very romantic if your luck is good, and there is no fog, you can see the volcano erupting while you dine.
