The Gasconia “Castle” a vintage yet modern charming spot with a great view, minutes from Antigua. We spent the weekend here and honestly weren’t sure what we were in for. The photos on the booking site can’t really capture what you experience.
If you are looking for luxury hotel experience this isn’t for you however this isn’t a hotel this a custom built castle. Martin the owner welcomed us and spoke of the story how he built this place straight out of his mind during the lockdown. It’s got a rustic magical charm to the place, and everyday he’s adding new features to the property and upgrading things little by little
I saw a previous review talking about spiders, and no amenities , that was DEFINITELY NOT our experience!
Positives:
The Rooms were well kept, spacious.
The property is well kept and very well designed, would be a great space for a writers retreat, a country side get away and has enough space to host events.
The owner was very friendly he picked us up in the morning and took us to Antigua, he even took us to the airport and said he really likes to take care of his guests because they are like friends to him and he wants them to have a great experience about the country and to be safe. In the 40+ countries I’ve visited I’ve never had a hotel go above and beyond like that for me and it really left a mark!
As for the amenities, we were given the property managers number and said if we wanted the fire pit lit or the sauna turned on just let them know in advanced because it’s all run from wood fires so it needs to be set up, which I thought was kinda cool
Cons:
It is on the side of a mountain and is about 30 minute walk from Antigua and maybe tricky for some taxis to find, (we didn’t have this issue with Uber /google maps)
There are kitchen set ups and no restaurant (yet) so you will need to bring some supplies with you and water when you check in or run to town to grab some stuff
It really has a castle vibe to it, if you’re looking for ultra modern I don’t think you will find that in Antigua
The room didn’t have AC so in the summer may get warm, we are here in February and it was pretty chilly at night so it was fine for us.
Overall :
Great spot overall, if you’re looking for something different with less noise than being inside Antigua and want an experience I highly recommend, you give the Gasconia Castle a shot!
