Atol de plátano, Plantain Beverage

La Salsa Inglesa
Ingredients:
  • 2 ripe plantains
  • 5 cups of water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ¼ cup of sugar (optional)
  • Cinnamon powder for sprinkling
Instructions:
  1. Peel and cut up the plantains into large pieces
  2. Add the water, plantain, and cinnamon stick to a large pan. Cover and bring to the boil
  3. Cook for approximately 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and put the plantain pieces into a blender with a little of the water they were cooking in. Blend until smooth.
  5. Return the blended plantains to the pan of water. Stir. Taste for sweetness before adding sugar depending on how sweet you like it
  6. Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
  7. Serve hot in cups with a little cinnamon powder sprinkled on top.
