“I’ve been to many a coffee shop in Guatemala. I have not reviewed any of them. But after my fifth visit to Coffee Tasting and their sister shop Cafe Eiffel in Santiago Atitlán, I felt that I had to contribute my thoughts. Quite simply, they have the best coffee on the lake. They narrowly beat out Crossroads Cafe in Pana, another excellent place worth checking out, especially Mike’s HueHue blend. The two Santiago places are run by the same family: Diego and Elena and their two sons. They grow their own coffee and save the best of it for the coffee shops. Diego learned coffee growing from his father. They also roast it themselves. The coffee is rich yet creamy and not too bitter. Try their mocachino if you like chocolate, it’s delightful. The family is Tzutujil Maya and are proud of their culture. They’re very happy to talk to visitors (in Spanish) and share their experiences, but at the same time they’re very professional and leave be those who simply want to sit and relax. We only had quesadillas (they were so so), so I can’t speak for all the food. But if a really good cup of coffee is what you are after, this is the place to come.” -LouF
