The Foundation for Fine Arts and Culture FUNBA is an institution located in the colonial city of Antigua and in Guatemala City. It is dedicated to strengthening the national identity through rescuing, protecting, conserving, investigating, disseminating, and promoting art in Guatemala.
The FUNBA collection is housed in the house museum located in the city of Antigua Guatemala and contains more than 4,000 pieces that cover the periods: Pre-Hispanic, Hispanic-Guatemalan, Modern, and Contemporary.
The foundation was established in 1993 with the goal of supporting and promoting the fine arts, such as painting, sculpture, music, and theater, as well as the cultural and historical heritage of Guatemala. The foundation achieves this by organizing and sponsoring various cultural events, exhibitions, performances, and educational programs throughout the country.
The foundation’s mission is to promote and support the artistic and cultural development of Guatemala, with a focus on nurturing young talent and providing access to cultural opportunities for all Guatemalans. They work with local artists and cultural organizations to create and promote a diverse and vibrant cultural landscape in Guatemala.
The foundation has played a significant role in preserving Guatemala’s cultural heritage, including its indigenous Mayan traditions and customs, through its support of cultural events and initiatives.
